I honestly think AirPlay is a sleeper technology that Apple is slowly evolving to make a wireless iOS dock. AirPlay continually gets better and now Mountain Lion is scheduled to incorporate more AirPlay features. I think it’s only a matter of time before the AppleTV gets a new name and just becomes AirPlay Dock.
I couldn't agree more Gabe. I like to think of a future where any monitor connected to the Apple TV AirPlay Dock can act as a full fledged monitor for an iPad or even an iPhone. I think one problem Apple has to solve is input to this iOS computer. I tweeted on February 20th
@JNGold I would love apple to support a cursor when you are AirPlay mirroring. Then a keyboard/touchpad dock from apple.

I think Gabe and myself have it right. Apple should support a simple white circle on the AirPlay mirrored screen to represent where your finger is just like they have used in keynote presentations in the past. I also think that if Apple implements this they could support the Magic Trackpad as an input device to the iPad truly opening up the possibilities of using your iPad as your only computer.
Technology moves so fast. So much has happened to the smartphone industry in the last decade. But you know what hasn't really changed all that much?
The battery.
It's insane. The trail of successes that Apple has had since the iPod was introduced over a decade ago shows no signs of slowing down. Every quarter seems to be a record breaking quarter. Just about every product launch is a raging success. Apple is a tech company that is truly in a league of it's own. It's no wonder that Apple is loved by so many and hated by so many others. What will it take for this empire to fall? The loss of it's most famous creator? Nope. With stock value at an all time high and a recent earnings report that shows the company to be so ridiculously profitable that it makes every other company in the World look like a complete and abysmal failure, the rise to global domination looks certain. I thinks it's safe to say Jobs left his company in good hands.
It's no secret that the default mail app on iOS is not loaded with the same feature set that you get in Gmail. It doesn't have the advanced filtering. It doesn't offer any built-in keyboard shortcuts. It doesn't have "labels". It doesn't even have a "Priority Inbox". Yet I still prefer it over Gmail. Why is that? Because it's simple. Because it's elegant. Would I like more features? Yes. Of course I would. But with each iteration of the iOS platform, more of those those check boxes of wants are being checked off. In the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system, we were given:
Get an Android fan and an Apple "Fanboy" in the same room and bring up the subject of multitasking. The arguments from both sides regarding the subject are going to both be relevant in regard to their preferred platforms. Yes, the Android operation system can run multiple apps in the background. The "Fanboy" will tell you that the way Apple does it is better with their fast app-switching saved state method because it is better on battery life.
The iPhone has simplified my life in an infinite number of ways. It has truly converged so many things into one device. But excited as I am about the iPhone and it's future, I am even more excited about the the fusion of mobile technology and the wristwatch.
